Week #8

Week #8, April 8 - 14, brought a feeling of "Wow!".  Paint, light fixtures and cabinets were easy compared to the work done in previous weeks, but what a payoff.

The ceiling was painted on Monday, April 8th.
MVC442F.JPG
It is a satin gloss finish, the color is "Ice Cavern".
MVC443F.JPG
The walls are primed. The skylight shaft and ceiling are the same color. But color is more obvious in the skylight, plus the color changes during the day as the sun passes by.
MVC445F.JPG
Jack painted just one wall to see if we liked the color "Dutch Aqua".
MVC446F.JPG
I like the color... it goes well with our attempt to have a subtle "nautical theme" in the colors and finishes in the kitchen.

MVC449F.JPG
There are now 5 lights in an area originally serviced just by one fixture.
MVC450F.JPG
Let there be light! It is good.
MVC452F.JPG
Besides programming, taking pictures and making the web site, every now and then Jack let's me do something. (It is not like I'm begging to this stuff.)
MVC453F.JPG
I painted the first coat of the Dutch Aqua. I didn't paint where the cabinets are going to go.
MVC455F.JPG
Lookin' good!
MVC456aF.JPG
The accent fixtures were installed before the paint dried.
MVC456F.JPG
I paint best when I don't have to stay in the lines.
MVC457cF.JPG
The accent lights. We think they go along with the nautical theme in our galley kitchen.
MVC459F.JPG
The cabinets are hung from this rail. Jack was dubious at first, but once he got going he realized it was a lot easier to level this thing just once, then all the cabinets were level too.
MVC460F.JPG
Each cabinet hangs by 2 bolts which slide in rail.
MVC461F.JPG
The fasteners also allow for additional leveling.
MVC462F.JPG
Have you ever assembled shelves or cabinets  from Ikea? You get this packet of junk, a bunch of boards with holes drilled in them, and a sheet of "instructions".
MVC463F.JPG
I can never tell which board is the top, bottom, inside or outside. The instructions are of little help.
MVC464F.JPG
The first unit took about 20 minutes to figure out, the rest went together and were hung in than 10 minutes each.
MVC465F.JPG
Of course, Bella is forbidden on the counters... but inside the cupboards is OK.
MVC466F.JPG
Everything meets with the cat's approval. Now Jack can proceed with the cupboards on the south wall.
MVC467F.JPG
The cupboard are all up. The first base unit is installed.
MVC468F.JPG
The cupboard doors will be installed later.
